I love my laptop

January 16th, 2006 · No Comments

I may seem crazy, but these days I prefer working on my old wireless-enabled laptop than my newer, more powerful desktop computer at home. Yes, my desktop has twice the memory of my laptop, twice the Gigahertz clock speed rating, has ten times the hard disc space, and has a screen large enough for King Kong to marvel at (OK, that was an exaggeration). But my powerful desktop doesn’t have the mobility my old laptop offers.

My laptop has spoiled me! Ever since I installed a WiFi router to share my DSL Broadband connection at home, I’ve enjoyed being able to work—and play—on my laptop in almost every room in the house. Being a freelance writer and web design consultant, my day usually consists of taking care of various writing and programming assignments. And I could accomplish all these in the warm comfort of my bed if I wanted to. Or, I could be at my garden enjoying the sunrise while I respond to morning emails. I could also be taking my coffee break at the kitchen table while reading up on news online.

The freedom of true mobility is truly a boon for today’s I.T. professional. WiFi has proven its worth in terms of productivity and efficiency benefits. We are increasingly becoming un-wired but still connected.

Maybe next time I’ll try working while in the bathroom!
