Mobile warriors have another reason to be happy as Sony Ericsson presented its newest phone to the public – and this time its WiFi enabled!
The Sony Ericsson P990 is the latest Symbian OS smartphone in the company’s P-series. This new phone is the newest child and follows the success of the other P-series phones – P800, P900, and P910. It is expected to start shipping during the first quarter of 2006 to Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa as the P990i, and to mainland China as the P990c. There is still no word for a North American variant though.
The P990 offers a slew of major improvements. Of course, the most important new feature is its support for 802.11b Wireless Ethernet (WiFi), which makes the P990 one of a few WiFi capable phones in the market today. The phone’s camera has also been bumped up to a whopping 2 megapixels. Sony Ericsson is fast gaining a reputation for having the best phone cameras in the market and it is expected that this phone will offer the kind of superb photo quality as the K750.
The P990’s WiFi capabilities, coupled with its new 240×320 pixel touchscreen with 262,000 colours allows users to surf the internet anywhere there is an internet hotspot. What’s more, they won’t need to bring their laptop computers anymore to access the internet. This is welcome news for gadget heads who are beginning to complain that they have to lug around so many electronic equipment with them that they are beginning to look like electronic salesmen. With the P990, you basically have a phone, PDA, and internet-capable device rolled into one.
