The WiFi possibilities of the Xbox 360

With the recent launch of the much vaunted Xbox 360, the much-vaunted next-generation Microsoft gaming console, the new owners are feverishly discussing the slew of features the new Xbox is offering.

Aside from the jaw-dropping graphics and the nifty wireless controller, most gadget heads are excited about the Xbox 360’s WiFi capabilities. Although it is unfortunate that the console is only “WiFi ready” and would need a WiFi adapter to unlock its full WiFi features, it is still a good reason to be excited because of the many possibilities that a WiFi enabled gaming console can offer in terms of usability and alternative uses.

One of the most obvious uses for WiFi is, of course, online gaming. With the “old” generation of consoles not having any native WiFi support, going online used to pose a problem in terms of location. Most computers, network hubs or routers are usually not placed near a house’s entertainment room so there is always the hassle of getting a separate wiring that would usually snake from the modem/router to the entertainment room. This is such a big hassle!

What most Xbox 360 owners are excited about though is the possibility of streaming the MP3 files from their PCs to the Xbox 360. Even though devices that do this have already been released, an Xbox 360 with streaming capabilities is good value for money. The Xbox 360 truly is turning out to be more than a gaming console.
