You know the world has changed when business matters are discussed at the pub rather than the boardroom or office. The other day, I sat down with an online contact and talked business matters over a pint of my favorite brew. Of course, we had our own laptops on the table so we can bring up matters of interest on our web browsers at any time.
This wouldn’t be possible a couple of years back. But with today’s proliferation of public WiFi hotspots, all you need is a laptop or handheld computer with a WiFi connection (or any WiFi-enabled device, for that matter) and you’re all set to access the Internet on-the-go. You can surf, chat, email, or even play online games. If you have a webcam, you can even videoconference outside the four walls of your office. That’s freedom of mobility for you!
To businessmen and entrepreneurs, this adds a new twist to taking out your clients to lunch (or dinner, or even a drink). It’s easier than ever to go online and catching the latest stock prices and business news—and in my case, checking out the latest tech news and trends.
Just make sure you don’t overdo the drinking. Arguably, the best business deals are done with just the right amount of alcohol—not too little, not too much.
